A movement of prayer, revival and reformation is sweeping the globe. In these days, God’s people must be careful of the fanatical, and the purely emotional alike. All true revival is based upon the word of God working reformation in life and character. The team at Operation Global Rain believes that what is happening now across the world will be proven to be of God only by its fruits. Following the biblical mandate for a call to reformation and revival in preparing the way of the Lord, we prayerfully ask you to consider the following.
The biblical revivals of the past were all preceded by a work of “putting away”. Before the children of Israel were delivered from Egypt, they were commanded to “put away” all leaven out of their homes. (Exodus 12:15). This leaven was later used to symbolize sin. (1 Corinthians 5:6-8).
Hezekiah’s reformation saw the destroying of idols:
“He removed the high places, and brake the images, and cut down the groves, and brake in pieces the brasen serpent that Moses had made: for unto those days the children of Israel did burn incense to it: and he called it Nehushtan.” (2 Kings 18:4.)
Under king Josiah, a major revival and reformation took place. Again, there was a work of putting away. (See 2 Kings 23). In the New Testament we have this account of the Ephesians.
“And many that believed came, and confessed, and shewed their deeds. Many of them also which used curious arts brought their books together, and burned them before all men…” (Acts 19:18-19.)
This is an appeal to the people of God, especially to heads of the households. Perhaps we all have some kind of leaven in our homes, “magical books” or “idols” in one form or another that are polluting our hearts and the hearts of our children. In wanting to be as ready as possible so that God perchance may bless us, what if the people of God began now to cleanse their homes and rededicate their households to God?
Part of the Operation Global Rain plan is to have your church set aside one day in which all the heads of households will rededicate their homes and families to God. This is not one global day, but a day selected by your local church. (Sunday, June 24). As Israel was commanded to put the blood upon the posts of their homes, so each head of household will go through his home with his family cleansing it of anything sinful. Instead of laying out specifics, we believe that the spirit of God, and the word of God should determine what goes. One aspect of the last great work to be done on earth is found in Malachi 4:5-6:
“Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD: And he shall turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse.” (Malachi 4:6)
Many of our homes are in turmoil. Satan is seeking to destroy the family unit. He is filling our homes with leaven and “magical books”.
Let us as a people unite in a global spirit of “putting away” in preparation for these 10 days! Let us form a united front against the enemy of souls, and move forward in our destiny foretold in the word of God. Of course, there is also the work of putting away sin in our hearts. But this is a specific call to have our homes purified in a very real and practical way.
“Such a change as was wrought in these Ephesians by the preaching of the truth will ever attend true conversion, and is the best evidence of a genuine work of grace in the heart.” (Signs of the Times - February 18, 1886)
May God’s spirit and word guide each of us as we put away the leaven, burn the magic books, and rededicate our homes to the Lord in connection with our hope for the outpouring of God’s spirit. Please pass this on.
Your brethren,
