Our Nothingness

Nothing is apparently more helpless, yet really more invincible, than the soul that feels its nothingness and relies wholly on God. (Prophets and Kings – 175)

What is justification by faith? It is the work of God in laying the glory of man in the dust, and doing for man that which it is not in his power to do for himself. When men see their own nothingness, they are prepared to be clothed with the righteousness of Christ. (The Faith I Live By – 111)

Oh, how many who are engaged in this work of responsibility need to behold God as did Isaiah; for in the presence of His glory and majesty self will sink into nothingness. (Counsels to Parents, Teachers and Students – 374)

Isaiah 64:6 —
6     All of us have become like one who is unclean,
and all our righteous acts are like filthy rags;
we all shrivel up like a leaf,
and like the wind our sins sweep us away.

Jeremiah 23:5-6 —
5     “The days are coming,” declares the Lord
“when I will raise up to David
a righteous Branch,
a King who will reign wisely
and do what is just and right in the land.

6
In his days Judah will be saved
and Israel will live in safety.
This is the name by which he will be called:
The Lord Our Righteousness.

Isaiah 6:5 —
5 “Woe to me!” I cried. “I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips, and my eyes have seen the King, the Lord Almighty.”
